Phillip Lim is celebrating the ten year anniversary of his brand with a unique installation for his store located in the Aoyama district of Tokyo.

“Japan was the second flagship store we ever had after New York, so after the show in New York in spring we decided to come back and kind of retrace the steps of our path after ten years. This is the second installation of this ‘Stop and Smell the Flowers’ journey,” Lim said to WWD. “And tonight we created this idea of showering cherry blossoms, and cherry blossoms to Japanese are so symbolic and important. It’s like spring, death and new life.”

To create the installation, Lim worked with Japanese flower artist Seijun Nishihata who filled glass orbs with water, arranged them with sprigs from cherry trees, and then hung them from the store's ceiling at various levels. The installation will be in the store for one month beginning this week.

Japan is very significant to the designer who finds plenty of inspiration from the country for his collections. Voguerunway.com described his spring 2016 ready-to-wear show in their review as “Lady bosses running through the streets of Shinjuku in Tokyo.” An artistic installation for his Japanese store was just part of bringing his designers eye full circle.
