It is the season to be jolly - and the season retailers across the nation pull out all the stops ranging from festive lights, to Christmas windows, decorations and trees as well as creative campaigns. Christmas marketing campaigns are usually rather expensive productions at aim to play into consumers emotions. Bigger retailers, such as John Lewis or Marks & Spencer are known to spent a few million pounds on a single Christmas ad.

But is this a smart marketing tactic for retailers? In the past consumers across the UK seemed to be influenced by TV adverts, with 65 percent of shoppers citing Christmas ads as one of their main influences on Christmas spend in 2015 according to research from Shoppercentric. However, a recent survey of 11,500 consumers from MoneySavingExpert found that only 1 percent of respondents shopping habits at Christmas were influenced by big adverts from the likes of M&S and John Lewis. An additional 10 percent said it had a very small impact, with as many as 69 percent saying Christmas ads had no impact what so ever.

Nevertheless, retailers continue to create and release their Christmas campaigns, some as early as November 1. FashionUnited has rounded up its favourite Christmas adverts of 2016 and asks, which retailer do you think did the best? Cast your vote for your favourite in the poll below.
