Designer Kerby Jean-Raymond is set to receive the Pratt Fashion visionary designer award. Located in Brooklyn, New York, the Pratt Institute has a deep history of fostering creative fashion and arts - its alumni include Betsey Johnson, Jeremy Scott and Robert Mapplethorpe.

Jean-Raymond, who founded his New York-based brand Pyer Moss in 2013, has since been recognized for his innovative and distinct designs. Last year, he received the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, this year is participating in the fund's Americans in Paris program.

The Pratt Institute recognizes the designer as an important source of influence for its aspiring fashion students.

The chair of the university's fashion department Jennifer Minniti told WWD, "His work signifies what fashion can and ought to be: a voice for social change, inclusion and purposeful experimentation. His approach creates fertile ground for taking the necessary risks to produce groundbreaking collections.”

Jean-Raymond will receive the Pratt Fashion Visionary Designer Award at the school's annual runway show on May 9. The show, which spotlights Pratt's graduating seniors will be held at Spring Studios.
