High street chain River Island has launched RI Active for men with a 14-piece training apparel collection designed for the “modern fitness enthusiast” to join the retailer’s existing activewear line for women.
“RI Active was born out of a growing market demand for slick hardworking training gear. Today the average male consumer doesn’t just care about appearance; it’s about fitness and well-being too,” said Nick Tahir, head of menswear buying at Rover Island. “We wanted to offer a collection hat was both stylish and functional, combining technical features and performance materials with our house design style to offer a solid range that ticks all the boxes.”
Available from mid-December, the collection includes tops, bottoms and outerwear, with technical garment construction features seen throughout such as sealed zippers, headphone eyelets and specially designed phone or music player pockets to securely conceal valuables.
Key pieces include seamless sweaters, zip-front hoodies and block panelled sweat-shorts, as well as a windbreaker jacket assembled with breathable mesh lining and showerproof outer shell that can be used for outdoor exercises.
To launch the line, River Island has named corrective exercise coach and fitness personality Roger Frampton to be the face of the collection. He will support the launch of the range in the New Year with a series of guest appearances on River Island’s online channels and social media.
