Swedish fashion label A.Berg, helmed by Sara Lundberg, has been named the winner of the Designers’ Nest prize at Copenhagen Fashion Week.

The talent contest, organised by trade show Revolver, aims to expose and promote up-and-coming Scandinavian designers to global buyers, media and trendsetters who visit the biannual fashion event. Each season a new designer is crowned the winner and they take home a cash prize of 50,000 Danish kroner.

Lundberg, who graduated from the Swedish Schools of Textiles, impressed the judging panel that included London-based designer Peter Jensen, with her strong fashion statement ‘Omg(s)’ collection, which showcased all-over sequinned gowns and emoji-like faces.

The competition, which saw 24 students from eight schools in the Nordic countries competing for the prize, also awarded Louise Wanggren from The Swedish School of Textiles and Irina Benetyte Stange Jensen from The Royal Danish Academy of Arts in Copenhagen second and third prizes, respectively.

There was also a special mention for Domantas Smaizys from the KEA School of Design and Technology in Copenhagen from Eyes on Talents for his sustainable design.

Lundberg and the finalists all showcase their collections during Copenhagen Fashion Week and the designer was awarded her prize by HRH Crown Princess Mary, who sits as a patron of Designer’s Nest show and award.

The Designers’ Nest platform was created in 2003 to boost the profile of Nordic design graduates. Past winners have included Rolf Ekroth from the Aalto University of Design in Finland, Andreas Eklöf from The Swedish School of Textiles and Danish designer Rakel Sölvadóttirs.
