Secon Group, which has Turnover, Creenstone, Arrow and Another Woman in its portfolio, signed Fair Wear Foundation's (FWF) good labor conditions code. Swedish fashion company Filippa K also recently joined FWF. FWF looks after the labor conditions of employers within the clothing production process. Over the last 12 months, FWF has seen a great growth but at the same time received quite some criticism. Being a Dutch company, the Dutch Retail Board wanted to put a stop to its financial benefits it receives from the Dutch Government. Interim Director of FWF Monique van 't Hek didn't seem to understand where the Retail Board was coming from.
Safia Hagglund-Wood of Filippa K replied not being aware of the critic FWF received and that they choose the company as it is "the most respected organisation in the business". "Filippa K has been looking to improve their labor standards of its factory employees and the company appreciates how FWF operates", said Hafflun-Wood.
At Secon no one was available to comment.
About forty companies are part of the labor improvement initiative by FWF. The company's growth is also linked with its European expansion over the past period of time. Besides Filippa K, eco-apparel Continental Clothing (UK), Natur (Germany), Cheap Monday (Sweden), Switcher (Switzerland) and Sparkling Ideas from Belgium are members of FWF.
