We really cannot complain about the recent resurgence of shorts and Bermudas. We've had months to prepare, perhaps even a year. All through winter we practiced the Bermuda look tentatively, pairing tweed and pin-stripe styles with matt, dark hose and knee-high boots. Did we win over the men with this look? No! Does that really matter to a true fashionista? Again, no! However, we do want to look good in the look du moment, and unless you're blessed with the perfect bottom half, there are tactics you must be aware of.

Aside from the bi-weekly step aerobics lessons and that desperate last attempt to shed extra pounds with a juice fast, wearing shorts and Bermudas is all about cut and length. It's really all very logical: the shorter you are, the shorter your Bermudas should be, although please stay away from the Daisy Dukes unless you happen to be twelve and reading this. If you believe your knees are particularly horrible, wear a Bermuda that stops mid knee, but preferably not any longer, or you'll be in danger of drowning.

Those with height and slim limbs, can wear anything. There really is no reason to keep reading, however, if your thighs are the result of one to many cheesecakes, go for a cut without pleats. Look for shorts with a flat, broad waist to flatter the stomach, and limit adornments like fussy pockets and cuffs. Slit-pockets on the back break up a vast bottom, while a straight up-and-down look will lengthen the leg. If your thighs are somewhat chunky, stay well away from the tapered or skinny short. Overly tight shorts can create unsightly bunching and bulges. And if you have any feminine curves to speak of, don't go for a tight, low-waisted short; unless you're wearing a maternity top over it, everyone can see the hip-bulge spread over the waistline, and it's not pretty!

Today's Bermudas look modern because of their simplicity and clean straight lines - read: no flares. Zara does a great basic one in black, chocolate, khaki and white. Pair them with a sixties style tunic and flat sandals for a Palm Beach look or with sexy, strappy platforms and a flirty top or adorned T-shirt for more of a J.Lo vibe. Beware of going for an all-khaki look if you're not on safari. Think city chic and pair your shorts with a cropped jacket to take out to lunch or even to the office if you work in a creative or semi-casual environment.

If you want true bling and can afford it, Moschino does a great gold pair that are perfect for a night on the town. Oh, and before you do all that, don't forget to scrub up, fake-tan and get a pedi. Have fun this summer!
