Target shoppers were not happy after the retailer launched its much-anticipated clothing and home goods collaboration with Vineyard Vines this weekend - yet their dissatisfaction did not come from the line itself. Shoppers were upset at how quickly items from the summer collection sold out.
After the collection went on sale online at 3 AM on Saturday morning, several items sold out within the first hour. Angry shoppers took to Twitter to share their frustration, many stating that they felt Target should have stocked higher numbers of the items.
Despite consumer frustration, Target shared with USA Today that the reactions it has seen from social media is amongst its most positive feedback from any designer partnership. It also told the publication that, "With any limited-edition partnership, we aim to strike a balance between offering enough inventory so guests can purchase the items they want, while keeping the collections limited in nature."
Business Insider reported that items from the Target x Vineyard Vines collaboration are already available on resale markets such as Ebay and the Facebook Marketplaces for up to twice the retail price.
Target does not have plans to restock the collection, yet items could become available again if shoppers make returns. Items from the Vineyard Vines collection have a 14-day return policy, rather than Target's standard 90-day policy.
