Texprint winners First View Exhibition

Emphasising the professional and creative synergy between the worlds of art and fashion, this year’s Texprint was supported by New Look, Salvatore Ferragamo and Giles Deacon. An international design audience comprised of corporate brand Miroglio Textiles Italia, Marks & Spencer, and fashion cognoscenti Jenny Packham and Paul Costello.

A jury of fashion selected the winning designers. British fashion icon Zandra Rhodes selected Ruth Davis, BA Fashion Design graduate from the University of Northumbria, as the winner of the Print prize, which was donated by Liberty Art Fabrics. Fashion designer Giles Deacon, chose Nicola Strathearn, MA Mixed Media Textiles graduate from the Royal College of Art, as winner of the Breaking New Ground prize, which was donated by WGSN.

Barbara Horspool, creative director of high street fashion giant New Look, selected Lisa Stannard, BA Textile Design graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University School of Art, as winner of the Colour Prize, donated by long-time Texprint supporters Pantone Europe. John Tate head of design of knitwear specialist Lyle & Scott’s chose Hollie Maloney as the Knit prizewinner. Hollie Maloney is a BA Fashion & Textile graduate from the University of Brighton.

Ronald Weisbrod, Vice Chairman of the Swiss Textile Federation, selected Martha Steadman as winner of the Weave prize, donated this year by Australian Wool Innovation. Martha Steadman is a BA Textile Design graduate from Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design. Multi-talented artist and Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry chose Nancy Taplin as winner of the Interior Fashion Prize. Nancy Taplin is a BA Fashion and Textiles graduate from Colchester School of Art and the prize was donated by Sanderson Art in Industry Trust.

Initially Texprint awarded Samantha Beeston for the colour price, but had to remove her from its roster her work beared too much of a resemblance to that of other designers and illustrators. Samantha will not be joining the other designers in Paris at Indigo (part of Premiere Vision) and she is no longer the beneficiary of the Colour Prize. Instead, congratulations are in place to Lisa Stannard, who has now been awarded the Colour Prize, selected by Barbara Horspool of New Look.
