The Leather Satchel Co. launches crowdfunding campaign to coincide with 50th anniversary

The UK's oldest satchel manufacturer, the Leather Satchel Co,. is launching a crowdfunding campaign to raise 50,000 pounds to develop an online app which would let customers design their own bespoke satchels and bags.

"Our bags last for decades, and each one tells a unique story, not just through its design, but through the way it ages," explained Keith Hanshaw, managing director of The Leather Satchel Co. on the campaign. "We want to show people just how distinctive we can make our bags and exactly what we can do to personalise each individual bag."

The new campaign, known as My Bag, My Story, is set to coincide with the Liverpool-based manufacturer 50 year anniversary and will be launched through Kickstarter on March 8. The Leather Satchel Co., best known for its iconic satchel, is aiming to raise sufficient funds to develop a state of the art customization tool which would give the customer the opportunity to create their own personal handbag by combining the companies different style variations.

"We can make whatever anybody wants, we can craft their ideal bag designed to fit their lifestyle, but at the moment people are unaware of what we're capable of making for them," added Hanshaw. "The purpose of the Kickstarter is to fund a crafting tool so that people can go online and start designing their own bags." Supporters of the campaign can pledge 15 pounds or more to fund the online tool starting today, up until April 6, when the campaign ends.

In addition, the Leather Satchel Co. is offering a wide range of personalised bags, satchels and experiences as rewards for those who support the campaign on Kickstarter. "Everyone in the family has spent time in this business. If we need something then we make it ourselves. Leather is in our blood, that’s what we do. We don’t buy belts, we don’t buy bags - we come in and we make them ourselves. That’s our pedigree. That's our story."
