The power of fashion photographers

Designers get hailed for their beautiful creations, but catwalk kudos is very much owed to the photographer whose bright flashes and shoots means the world gets to see the images within hours after a show. Insiders will remember the light collapsing incident at the SS06 Diane von Furstenberg show, which was taken to court, but that was nothing compared to the Recent photographer's platform collase during Fendi's Autumn/Winter presentation.

"We are not animals," the photographers apparently snapped, and subsequently over 100 photogrpaheres boycotted the show. They may jostle for prime position to get nearest the catwalk, but when it comes to an incident - or indeed accident as one photographer was injured - they are as thick as thieves. The uplisfting show of unity reminded the fashion community that they are nothing without the flashes and a visual record for those beyond the front row.
