Soccer star Tim Cahill, who is now also a fashion businessman, has launched his brand, Cahillphus, in China by launching on Alibaba's competitor JD.com.
Cahill, who hails from Australia, is currently playing for Hangzhou Greentown F.C. He previously played for Everton in England. His line is sold at retailers including Topman, Glue Store, Myer Department Stores, and Culture Kings & Boys Co.
According to JD.com, Cahill's spring collection is inspired by the Shanghai Hongkou Stadium. The line features East Asian design touches like oriental design touching, embroidering, quilting, and coin motifs.
JD.com is really starting to give Alibaba a run for their money. They recently announced a strategic partnership with Wal-Mart, and they also featured the Cahillphus line at their show during New York Fashion Week last February. Earlier this year, they also secured a deal with Calvin Klein.
Alibaba has recently found itself in some controversyAlibaba has recently found itself in some controversy over some remarks Jack Ma made regarding counterfeit goods. It's too early to tell what effect that this could have on sales and business, but JD.com is taking advantage of every opportunity they have to dominate the e-commerce space.
