In all the craziness caused by the comings and goings of designers from one fashion house to another, Alessandro Dell’Acqua remains a constant. The designer extended his contract and is staying on as creative director of French fashion house Rochas, WWD reports.
Dell’Acqua has been creative director of womenswear for Rochas since 2013, and management is eager to hold on to him. Philippe Benancin, head of Rochas owner Inter Parfums, called the designer ‘the obvious choice’ to lead the development of the brand. His ‘elegantly eccentric touch has contributed, and will continue to contribute, to modernising the brand’s image and identity’, Benancin said.
’Highly creative and business oriented’
According to Stéphane Lemonnier, director of fashion and accessories at Rochas, Dell’Acqua possesses the ideal combination of creativity and commercial know-how. “He is really the person that matches our expectations for this position,” he told WWD in an interview.
Dell’Acqua launched his eponymous womenswear brand in 1996. Two years later he also introduced a menswear collection. In 2009 he joined cashmere specialist brand Malo. In that same year, he lost the operating rights to his own brand and stepped down from the company he had founded.
One year later, Dell’Acqua relaunched his brand under the name No.21, named for his birthday. The label debuted in Milan. He also continued to design for other brands, such as Les Copains in Italy. In 2013, following his departure from Les Copains, he succeeded Marco Zanini as creative director of womenswear at Rochas.
Last year, Rochas was acquired from Procter & Gamble by Inter Parfums for 108 million dollars. Benancin was reported to have said that the acquisition would create new opportunities for Dell’Acqua ‘in terms of creativity, as well as aesthetic design and marketing choices’.
The terms of Dell’Acqua’s new contract with the brand are, as yet, unknown.
