BCSC appoints new chief executive

The British Council of Shopping Centres, the voice of the retail property industry, has appointed John Coyne as its new chief executive.

Coyne, currently interim managing director of Improving Health Limited a GP Federation in London, replaces Michael Green, who left in October 2014 after 11 years to join charity Retail Trust as development director. He starts his new role on June 1.

Prior to joining Improving Health Limited he served as commercial director at Action for Children and managing director of the Association of Plumbing, Heating and Mechanical Contractors.

David Atkins, BCSC president, said: “John brings a wealth of commercial and political experience gained across the public, private and charity sectors. Throughout his career, he has shown strong leadership and has significant change management expertise which will benefit the strategic review which he will continue to push forward.

"His experience of representative bodies combined with his clear skills in driving strategic vision, innovation and demonstrable commercial nous, make John a fantastic candidate to lead BCSC and drive our membership organisation forward meeting the challenges our industry faces."

Additionally, the BCSC also confirmed the resignation of vice president Suzi Clay who is expecting a baby and has been replaced with immediate effect by junior vice president Mark Bourgeois, who is who is executive director of shopping centre owner Capital & Regional.
