Joshua Schulman, president of American department store Bergdorf Goodman and its parent company Neiman Marcus Group International, has resigned from his position and will leave in May.

The statement didn’t confirm a reason for his departure, just noting that he would leave on May 10, however, rumours have been swirling that he is to join a yet unnamed “multinational fashion company”.

Schulman has been with Bergdorf Goodman for five years, and following his departure, his responsibilities will be assumed by James J. Gold, president and chief merchandising officer of Neiman Marcus.

The news follows the announcement that Neiman Marcus was working with financial advisors on a review of its “strategic options”, which includes selling part or all of its business, with industry sources naming Canada’s Hudson’s Bay Company, parent of Saks Fifth Avenue, as the most likely suitor.
