London - Care International, the leading international humanitarian agency fighting to end poverty, has appointed Laura Hawkesford as head of its Private Sector Engagement team.

Hawkesford brings a wealth of private sector and NGO experience to the role, as for the past four years she has held the position of Ethical Trading Manager at Marks and Spencer. During her tenure there, Hawkesford worked closely with Care on the Halow+ programme, an innovative partnership between M&S, Care and GSK which aims to empower 50,000 garment factory workers in Bangladesh by improving individual and community health.

"I am really excited about joining Care. I have worked closely with Care during my time at M&S, with our flagship Halow+ programme with GSK," said Laura Hawkesford in a statement. "I am really looking forward to working with everyone in Care UK, Care staff around the world and its partners to continue the organisation’s sector recognised work. I’m keen to use my experience and networks to take the conversation and partnerships to the next level, to improve the lives of vulnerable people."

In her new role at Care, Hawkesford will be overseeing a wide portfolio of partnerships, including their partnership with GSK, which aims to improve the quality and quantity of frontline community health workers and health care. Through this flagship partnership, Care has trained 32,000 health workers across Asia and Africa, providing more than 4 million people with better access to skilled health services and education.

"Care is well known in the development sector for our work with the private sector," added Laurie Lee, CEO Care International UK. "Together with businesses we co-create opportunities for marginalised people to have better access to goods, services and livelihoods. I’m delighted that Laura Hawkesford will be joining CARE and heading up our private sector team. Laura brings a wealth of experience and contacts to the role. I’m excited to see where Laura takes CARE’s sector leading team."f the content of this e-mail in any way is prohibited.
