Daniel Hanson to receive Honorary Degree from the University of Derby

Clothing and textile designer Daniel Hanson is set to receive an Honorary Degree from the University of Derby to honour his “valuable contribution” to the fashion industry and the city.

Hanson, who launched his signature textile brand in Nottingham in 1989, will receive an Honorary Master of the University during the University of Derby’s Award Ceremonies in July.

The textile designer is renowned internationally for his nightwear designs, which are stocked in high end retailers including Harrods and Selfridges in the UK, and Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys in New York. He also has a long list of celebrity clients including Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston, Victoria Beckham and Bianca Jagger.

Professor Kathryn Mitchell, vice-chancellor of the University of Derby, said in a press release: “I am looking forward to welcoming all of these special guests to our Award ceremonies in July, where they will have the pleasure of sharing the stage with our fantastic, hard-working students.

“The standard of Honorary Award recipients this year is excellent. Each one of these notable people has made an exceptional contribution in their field and to our region, and I am delighted to confer them with these honorary awards alongside our graduating students.”

The University of Derby will also give Honorary Degrees to The Bishop of Derby the Rt Revd Dr Alastair Redfern and international rugby player Jonathan Joseph, at its Award Ceremonies this summer, which take place from July 18 to 20.
