Ebay promotes German head and consolidates EU business
Ebay has appointed Saskia Meier-Andrae as its vice president (VP) and general manager (GM) for Europe.
Meier-Andrae is taking on a newly created position that consolidates the management of the entire EU marketplace business, Ebay announced on Friday. She has been promoted from within the company. According to her LinkedIn profile, she has been responsible for the German market as general manager since March 2024, and additionally for the Central Europe region since September 2025. Previously, she worked for the US-based online furniture retailer Wayfair, most recently as head of Germany. In her new role, she will continue to manage the German market and report to Oliver Klinck, VP and GM of global markets and consumer-to-consumer.
“Over the past two and a half years, Saskia Meier-Andrae has played a decisive role in shaping our strategic growth course. She also understands how to combine the advantages of scale with the diverse requirements of our European markets. This makes her the right person to bring our EU marketplaces closer together and shape the next phase of our development in Europe,” said Klinck.
Stronger positioning at a European level
The appointment is intended to promote cross-border trade within the EU. According to the statement, Ebay also aims to prioritise more at a European level, build cross-market capabilities and scale successful solutions more quickly. The goal is for the country-specific marketplaces to work more closely together, while responsibility for individual markets will remain with the local teams.
“For us, the question is not: European or local? The question is: where does European scale create more value, and where is local proximity the decisive advantage?” said Meier-Andrae. “Proximity to our community is one of Ebay’s great strengths and therefore remains an essential part of our model.”
According to Ebay, the authenticity guarantee for pre-loved fashion and luxury items demonstrates what closer integration can look like. Since August, the service has been available to buyers and sellers in France and Italy as well as Germany, with authentication continuing to take place in Germany. Approved items receive greater visibility across the three markets.
Ebay has been expanding its fashion business for some time. In February, the company announced the acquisition of the resale marketplace Depop from Etsy for around 1.20 billion US dollars.
