Matalan appoints former Marks & Spencer director Richard Price as adviser

US specialty apparel retailer Matalan has confirmed that Richard Price, former managing director of clothing, home and beauty at British retailer Marks & Spencer, is working with the company as an adviser. The appointment comes as the business continues to deliver its transformation and growth strategy.
Price brings more than three decades of experience in retail leadership. He previously served as chief executive officer of F&F Clothing, managing director of BHS and trading director at Marks & Spencer, following more than 15 years at British fashion brand Next. In his new role, Price is working closely with the executive and product teams at Matalan.
“Matalan has a combination of strengths that gives it a significant opportunity: a highly recognised brand, millions of established customers and genuine affection for the business,” said Price. “What I’ve seen since working with Matalan has reinforced my confidence in the direction it’s taking. The business has already made significant progress in strengthening the proposition and modernising Matalan, and customers are responding positively.”
Price added that the company is seeing stronger product ranges, refreshed brick and mortar stores and continued investment in omnichannel capabilities, including a new mobile application. He noted that the primary growth opportunity lies in giving its established customer base more reasons to shop with the brand through enhanced product execution.
