In another major turn of events in the fashion world, Peter Copping, Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta has announced his departure in less than two years with the company.

“We have always been in the business of creating beautiful clothes,” said Alex Bolen, CEO of Oscar de la Renta, adding, “And two of our greatest assets are our design studio and atelier. Our team will continue to work on next season’s collection with a keen focus on the level of sophistication and craftsmanship that are the hallmarks of the house. We wish Peter well in his future endeavours.”

Before joining this company as the creative director, Copping was associated Nina Ricci for five years as artistic director. Before that, he worked as studio director at Louis Vuitton for 12 years, under Marc Jacobs.

In a press release, Copping said, “Personal circumstances require me to return to Europe. I have loved my time in New York where I hope to return at some point in the future.

Copping had joined the company immediately after De la Renta’s death with an aim to transform the family-run brand that never officially roped in a designer. While the company is yet to name a replacement, media reports suggest that Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, the founders and designers of Monse make takeover Copping’s responsibilities.

Copping’s resignation from Oscar de la Renta follows a series of high-profile reshuffles at coveted fashion labels, in the recent times. While Louis Vuitton issued a statement denying rumours that Louis Vuitton Women's Artistic Director Nicolas Ghesquière might be departing the brand before the end of his five-year contract, Valentino co-creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri moved to Christian Dior as Creative director of the women's collections. And industry is abuzz with indications that her predecessor, Raf Simons may join Calvin Klein anytime in the next few weeks.
