Supermarket giant Tesco has announced that Byron Grote will be joining its board as a non-executive director.
Grote, a former chief financial officer of BP, will take up his new role on May 1, and Tesco hopes that he will bring his “extensive executive and non-executive financial and strategic experience” to the board.
He succeeds Gareth Bullock, who is retiring from Tesco’s main board to devote more time to his role on the board of Tesco Bank, where he will continue as a non-executive director.
Grote is currently also a non-executive director of Unilever, Unilever NV, Anglo American, Standard Chartered and Akzo Nobel, although he will step down from the Unilever boards at the end of April.
