Four weeks after the acquisition of Mexx, new owners Turkish firm Eroglu Holding are hard at work to fulfil the relaunch of the Dutch fashion label. A renewed start for the label however could see a new figure head at the helm of Mexx. According to sources at Textilwirtshaft, Mexx is to be led by Ümit Eroglu, the nephew of Eroglu Holding's founder, Nurettin Eroglu.
Ümit Eroglu already has his hands in the proverbial cookie jar so to speak, overseeing the production and retail network from the brand Colin’s, which has over 600 stores, in 38 countries. However it appears to be that Colin is not enough for him anymore and now he wants to breath new life into Mexx, according to insiders close to the firm.
The Turkish firm has chosen to remain silent on its strategic plans for now. According to a company spokesperson, there is a press conference scheduled to occur in “the second half of March,” which was originally scheduled to occur mid-February.
Meanwhile the firm has been hard at work on the label’s relaunch, at Mexx’s headquarters in Amsterdam roughy 250 new employees have been brought on board after the majority of the brand's former staff were made redundancy after the insolvency.
However, things seem to be running less smoothly at Mexx’s German headquarters. The brand’s creative director Julia Hansen and chief financial officer Mehul have both left the company. And although Mexx’s wholesale director Yan Aerts is still active, the future of the brand’s wholesale business remains unclear. "I expect to be fired at the end of the week," said a wholesale manager who wants to remain anonymous.
By the end of this month the vesting period of three months will be over and on March 1, Eroglu will stand at the helm of Mexx.
