New York - Yoox Group, which will be closing its merger with Net-a-Porter in September, has appointed Alex Alexander as their Chief Information Officer. Alexander joined the company a month ago, and will now be responsible for all of Yoox's technology related functions in the newly created role. Alexander, who holds a degree in statistics from University College London in addition to holding an MBA, was previously responsible the multichannel technology director for Wal-Mart global e-commerce.
Alexander spent three years at Wal-Mart where he was responsible for designing and executing the multiyear omni-channel strategy for Asda, the company's UK subsidiary. “He brings a 20-year track record of executing successful omnichannel strategies and platform migrations of significant scale,” Federico Marchetti, founder and CEO of Yoox Group, said of Alexander in a statement. “As chief information officer, Alex will play a pivotal role in ensuring technology continues to be a key pillar of our competitive advantage by supporting and driving future growth as well as enhancing our cross-channel for our brand partners globally.”
Yoox Group, whose claim to fame is selling hard to find discount designer clothes, could be expected to see some major changes once they merge with Net-a-Porter. While the public awaits further details for what else the merger could mean, it could mean an increase in Yoox's inventory and offerings from back stock and out of season items Net-a-Porter has. Yoox is slowly preparing to enter a new era with their company, and Alexander's omni-channel and e-commerce experience is just what the company needs as they grow their business.
