The curtain has fallen for Accessorize stores in the Netherlands and Belgium as parent company, fashion group Monsoon Accessorize has closed down all of its stores and concession stands.

In spite of a store revamp last year May, which saw Accessorize stand alone stores both the Netherlands and Belgium being outfitted with the label's new store concept, the group has withdrawn its accessories brand from the overseas markets. Consumers are still available to shop online at the high street online international store, eu.accessorize.com.

Accessorize silently withdraws from the Netherlands and Belgium

The group previously revealed on Dutch Facebook page for Accessorize that the remaining operational stores within the Netherlands would shut down. Accessorize has been quietly closing down its sale locations in the country for the few months, in addition to stores in Antwerp and Wijnegem, Belgium. Towards the end of June, Accessorize began its closing sale in its remaining stores in Amsterdam, Maastricht and concession stand in Rotterdam, with some items going for as little as one euro. The remaining stores and concession stand in local department store V&D were officially closed by July 1.

FashionUnited NL was unable to reach the Accessorize head office in the Netherlands earlier this week, which seems to have been vacated as well. The British high street label was first introduced to the Netherlands by Jacqueline Opstelten in 2004, who went on to become the owner and director of the group's local branch in the country. The first Dutch store opened its doors in Amsterdam late summer, 2004. Stores in cities such as Rotterdam, Utrecht and Maastricht soon followed as well as in locations in Belgium.

The news comes as the group reveals plans to withdraw from Austria and continues to expand in Germany and Switzerland. According to Austrian magazine Woman, the decision came as a total surprise, even for Accessorize's local employees, especially as the group still has an open call for additional staff in the country which reads: 'So far there are eight stores, but many more will follow.'

FashionUnited has contacted Monsoon Accessorize office in the UK and is awaiting further information on the store closures.
