New York-based fashion designer Alexander Wang, who announced he would be leaving his post as creative director of Balenciaga last week, has open his largest branded flagship store to date for his eponymous label in London.

Located on Albermarle Street in Mayfair, the 6,460 square foot store has been designed in collaboration with architect Vincent Van Duysen, and spans over four floors of the former post-office building. The flagship, which will house all of Wang’s collections including ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes, handbags and small leather goods, features black and grey throughout with lots of tactile elements to fuse luxurious with Wang’s industrial aesthetic.

“London has always been a very, very important market for us — the first supporting international market for our brand since the very beginning. It’s also been our largest European market,” Wang told WWD. “London is on a whole different wavelength, and I think the shopping here actually trumps New York.”

It isn’t surprising that London has attracted Wang’s largest flagship store as 60 percent of the label’s revenue comes from international sales, with Europe being the brand’s biggest wholesale market. According to the designer, the UK is among its top foreign markets, alongside China, Italy and Canada.
