Amazon has expanded its Prime Now service to include Newcastle and many of the surrounding postcodes including Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland, meaning that Prime customers now have access to one hour delivery on thousands of items.

The service was launched for Prime members in London and Birmingham earlier this year, and now one-hour delivery has been expanded due to the Amazon Logistics’ delivery station in Gateshead.

Customers in the area can now choose delivery within one hour of ordering for 6.99 pounds, or free delivery within a choice of two-hour, same-day delivery slots between 8am and midnight, seven days a week.

“We’re thrilled to expand our one-hour delivery service to Newcastle, our latest Prime Now city in the UK,” said Christopher North, managing director at Amazon.co.uk. “We have already received great response from Prime Now customers in London and Birmingham and we’ve seen high demand on everything from essentials such as nappies and toiletries to must-have video games and toys—we are excited to delivering to more customers in record-breaking time.”

Amazon Prime is a growing service, the company states that worldwide paid membership, which costs 79 pounds a year in the UK, grew 53 percent this year. In addition to fast delivery, customers gets access to unlimited streaming through Prime Video and Prime Music, the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and 30-minute early access to lightening deals on Amazon.co.uk, which will be especially popular during Black Friday.
