Apple Pay's UK launch unsuccessful for millions of users

Tuesday marked the much awaited UK launch of Apple Pay, which saw millions of users with some of the UK's largest banks left on the sidelines when they were unable to use the new contactless mobile payment service.

Customers at HSBC, Lloyds and Halifax took to social media platforms, including Twitter to vent their thoughts on not being able to use the new service on it's launch day. HSBC bank denied that its decision to not be a part of the Apple Pay UK launch was a last minute change, claiming they did not plan to take part at all in spite of their name being listed on the official Apple website as a "participating bank" and launch partner.

An HSBC spokesperson revealed to the BBC: "We are working hard to bring this to our customers by the end of July." Five other banks, including Halifax, Lloyds and TSB will launch Apple Pay this autumn and Barclays, which currently offers is own mobile payment system, has confirmed it will be offering Apple Pay "in the future."
