Ards shopping centre in Newtownards, Northern Ireland is to add over 45,000 square foot of retail and leisure space as part of its redevelopment plans.
The investment of 7 million pounds will create three anchor retail units and a restaurant, with fashion and lifestyle retailer TK Maxx confirmed as the first anchor tenant, taking a 23,000 square foot unit. TK Maxx is expected to open its store in September.
The other two units have not yet been signed off, however, Belfast Office Properties, which owns Ards, has stated that talks are in “advanced stages” with a national anchor retailer and a leading cafe brand.
This news follows the announcement that JD Sports will be also be opening a 4,400 square foot store at the centre, while jeweller’s Warren James has taken a 1,190 square foot store and Argento has doubled its presence to a 930 square foot unit.
Paul Devlin of Belfast Office Properties said: “The redevelopment and our significant investment is a direct response to the demand for Ards Shopping Centre from major UK brands. Ards continues to position itself as a leading retail destination in NI.
“We are excited to welcome TK Maxx, B&M Bargains and JD Sports who combined will enhance and grow our loyal customers’ shopping experience and deliver three great brands, further strengthening our retail line-up.”
The shopping centre currently welcomes in excess of 100,000 visitors each week and will celebrate becoming 40 years old in August.
