Brits to spend 52.25 billion pounds online in 2015

The average UK shopper is expected to spend 1,174 pounds online in 2015, which totals to 52.25 billion pounds across the year, according to figures released by digital consumer offers firm RetailMeNot.
The report revealed that online retail sales are expected to grow by 16.2 percent in the UK from 44.97 billion pounds in 2014, while sales across Europe are tipped to grow by 18.4 percent, and the US and Canada predicted to rise by 13.8 percent and 13.2 percent respectively this year. With the outlook going into 2016 looking equally positive with similar gains expected across the board.
The international study conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Retail Research also found that online spending is expected to account for 15.2 percent of all consumer retail sales in the UK, and that the increase in sales per shopper is predicted to be as much as 10 percent, with the average shopper spending 55.36 pounds per purchase online and making 21 purchases via ecommerce channels through the year.
Giulio Montemagno, senior vice president of international at RetailMeNot, said: “Investment by retailers in improving the online shopping experience and in more sophisticated consumer targeting is clearly paying dividends.
“In the UK, consumers are now shopping online more frequently and spending more overall, helping to increase online retailers’ market share. This is being bolstered by a growing number of online shoppers; 65.5 percent of Brits now shop on the web.”
