Primark has signed up for a 75,000 square foot store at Milton Keynes shopping destination Centre:MK to mark the mall’s largest single letting for the past 25 years.

The budget fashion and lifestyle retailer is set to take over an extension of the former BHS on Silbury Arcade, where the brand will showcase its entire offering across womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, footwear, home and beauty.

The store will be handed over to Primark early next year for fit-out to commerce, said the shopping centre.

The signing is a key milestone in the centre’s “Re-imagining an icon” strategy set out by its joint owners Hermes Investment Management and SuperAustralian, which includes the investment of more than 60 million pounds in Centre:MK over three years.

Speaking on behalf of Hermes and AustraianSuper Ed Sellick said: “For Centre:MK, this is the single biggest letting since introducing Marks and Spencer 25 years ago. Furthermore, the Centre:MK store, which will be one of Primark’s largest in the UK, will attract significant numbers of new customers from across the region.

“Combined with the other investments, such as the new carpark, and the additional retailers that have opened in the last 18 months, the Centre:MK has never been in a stronger position or more compelling to brands and consumers alike.”

A spokesperson at Primark, added: “Working with the joint owners, we have achieved our longstanding objective of bringing Primark to the city centre in a store that will be emblematic of our brand. We are joining a fantastic line-up of brands at Centre:MK that provide visitors with everything they need.”

Coinciding with the signing of Primark, work begins this month on the new 25 million pound multi-storey carpark adjacent to John Lewis, which is set for completion next year. The carpark will set new standards regionally and will add almost 1,000 new spaces.

In addition, other recent additions to Centre:MK includes JD Sports and Footasylum, while River Island has confirmed that it is doubling the size of its store to create a new regional flagship, which is set to open in time for Christmas.
