Construction on London’s third Westfield department store has been delayed again and is unlikely to begin until 2020, according to the Sutton and Croydon Guardian.

Leader of the Croydon Council, Tony Newman, told the news outlet that he wasn’t sure when the construction of the 1.4 billion pound construction, which has been on the cards since 2013, would start. Work on Westfield Croydon was previously expected to start in September, with the opening date planned for 2023.

In November 2017, plans were approved for the construction of the Croydon Westfield and Hammerson development, but the development has faced several delays since. The development is part of a wider 5.25 billion pound regeneration of Croydon.

Traders in the Whitgift centre, which will be demolished to make room for the new department store, have reportedly not been told when they will have to leave, according to the Sutton and Croydon Guardian.
