American womenswear brand Eileen Fisher, which has a number of standalone stores in London, has officially become a Certified B Corporation after bring recognised for its high standards with regards social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.
This certification means that Eileen Fisher is the largest women’s fashion brand to be named a B Corporation by B Lab, the non-profit organisation that highlights businesses that use their position as a ‘force of good,’ as well as being the largest B Corporation company in the state of New York.
This honour follows the fashion brand’s Vision2020 initiative announced last year that outlines the steps the company is planning on taking to become 100 percent sustainable. These include pledging to use the most sustainable fibres it can get its hands on, using only organic linen in its tunics, and committing to leave less fabric waste on the cutting room floor.
Commenting on becoming a B Corporation, the brand’s founder and chairwoman Eileen Fisher said: ”Being acknowledged for our work over three decades is a testament to our passionate commitment to social and environmental responsibility. This recognition allows us to take a bold step in sharing who we are and what we believe in, and to make greater impact in the world as a fashion industry leader.
“Being a triple bottom line business means putting a stake in the ground around our purpose and practices - and truly turning business into a movement.”
B-Lab co-founder Jay Coen Gilbert added: "We are thrilled that Eileen Fisher, Inc. has joined the B Corp community. Social change is a team sport and it's powerful to have iconic brands like Eileen Fisher, Patagonia and Ben & Jerry's working together to use B Corp as a platform for their collective leadership in striving toward industry-wide and systemic change.”
Founded in 1984, Eileen Fisher is sold at more than 60 standalone stores in the UK, the US and Canada, as well as at more than 300 department and specialty stores.
