British fashion and lifestyle retailer Fat Face is expanding into the US with the launch of its first store outside of the UK and Ireland in Boston this autumn.

Chief executive Anthony Thompson unveiled his plans for the brand to expand to America back in 2013 when he announced the set up of a dedicated US website, and he has now confirmed to The Guardian that he intends to push forward with the US expansion with plans to open three stores by May 2016 and as many as “5 to 10 in the next 18 months. But we will do it in measured stages based on performance.”

The debut store will open in autumn in the Boston area Thompson confirmed, adding that he visited more than 40 locations along the east coast including Boston, Newport and Portland, Maine to find the right retail unit for Fat Face’s first venture outside the UK.

In the interview, the Fat Face boss also states there are plans for a further 12 new stores in the UK and Ireland, adding to its 200 stores, however he didn’t state timescale for the openings or locations.
