Intu enjoys record breaking Cyber Monday

Shopping centre owner and developer Intu has revealed that it had a record-breaking Cyber Monday, as more than 125,000 shoppers visited Intu.co.uk its affiliate content website in search of special deals.

Beating Black Friday’s web traffic, the increase in shoppers represented a 58 percent rise on last year and a 125 percent increase on average day traffic. The online traffic surged in the morning, reaching its peak at 11.22am, with females making up the majority of the visitors, with 65 percent of the total audience.

Trevor Pereira, commercial and digital director at Intu, said: “Cyber Monday lived up to the hype this year, with a record number of visits and purchases compared to last year. Customers really made the most of the multiple channels to secure products, using both our shopping centres and online website from Friday through to Monday to tick off items on their shopping list.”

The use of different platforms to access deals on Intu’s site was also highlighted by the shopping centre operator, with 75 percent of all online traffic coming via mobiles and tablet. This rose to 84 percent when accounting for the traffic to the website via email click through. In terms of transactions, almost three in five purchases were completed on a mobile and seven in 10 on mobiles and tablets.

Pereira added: “We’ve been discussing the growing role of digital handheld devices in the retail sector for some time and now we’ve seen it in action. Customers were hunting for deals while on the move or at work to ensure that they didn’t lose out on their wanted items.”

Intu’s affiliate content site has nearly 300 retailers signed up and the site has grown 40 percent year-on-year and received over 22 million visitors in its first year, placing it in the top 10 affiliate content sites in the UK according to Affiliate Window, a global performance marketing network.
