Shopping centre owner and manager Intu has unveiled plans to remodel and transform parts of Intu Milton Keynes, as it looks to give customers reasons to “visit more often and stay for longer”.

The redevelopment of the 430,000 square foot shopping centre will focus on the centrally connected, Midsummer Boulevard area, and will include a new dining quarter, over two levels, as well as a five-screen boutique cinema, seen as a way to enhance its retail offering.

The work, which Intu is describing as the most “significant retail and leisure development” that Central Milton Keynes has seen in over a decade, will also add external green public spaces that will offer a platform for community events and entertainment as well as a relaxing area for lunchtime workers and families, as the group looks to position the shopping centre into the “heart of the community.”

Martin Breeden, regional director of Intu, said: “The mission here is twofold: to create prime, well configured retail and catering space and also high quality public spaces. Intu Milton Keynes is the busiest part of the city centre with the strongest retail mix and now we are looking forward to making the most of the Boulevard area.”

The proposed work at Intu Milton Keynes is part of the group’s 1.3 billion pound development pipeline in the UK over the next 10 years, and follows the plans to redevelop Nottingham’s Intu Broadmarsh and extend Intu Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent.

Intu Milton Keynes has a 16 million annual footfall and is anchored by Debenhams. The shopping centre, which has a 1.6 million catchment area, also includes fashion names H&M, Hollister, Hugo Boss, Superdry and Zara.
