Grosvenor Europe, which owns and operates the Liverpool One shopping centre, has launched an augmented reality app for Christmas, which allows visitors to capture their own tree fairy on a 30-metre illuminated Christmas tree in Paradise Place.

The app launch coincided with the switching on of Liverpool’s city-wide Christmas lights and aims to encourage visitors to the shopping centre to name and share their fairy on social media for a chance to win a Liverpool One gift card.

Commenting on the app, Miles Dunnett, director at Grosvenor Europe, said: "Ensuring visitors have a great experience when they visit Liverpool One is vital to its ongoing success. Innovation is key to this, so Grosvenor Europe works continuously with our retailers and other occupiers to find new and exciting ways to interact with and attract more, visitors.

“Our Tree Fairies app engages visitors with Liverpool One and encourages them to share their experiences with others, generating conversations on social media that will lead to increased footfall. The approach is working too, with Liverpool One set to experience another year of footfall and sales growth."

The launch is part of the new consumer marketing campaign for Liverpool One which is running regionally throughout the Christmas period.

Liverpool one isn’t the first retail area to offer augmented reality app this festive season, Covent Garden announced earlier this month that it had transformed its shopping area into the world’s first augmented reality retail district for Christmas in partnership with AR app Blippar.
