ModCloth, the vintage-inspired label acquired by Walmart last year, has ceased all operations in Europe because their website was not ready for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Effective since May 25, the new piece of legislation applies to all companies processing personal data from European citizens, regardless of whether the company is based in Europe or elsewhere. Businesses had two years to prepare for the new regulation. Fines for companies that do not comply with GDPR range between 10 million and 20 million euros.
ModCloth has not disclosed when it expects to reinstate its operations in Europe. FashionUnited has contacted the company for additional commentary, but has yet to receive a response. This article will be updated once FashionUnited receives a reply from the company.
