American retailer Neiman Marcus has installed a MemoryMirror from MemoMi in its Walnut Creek, California store, which allows shoppers to compare in real-time how different outfits look on them, in a side-by-side comparison, as well as a 360-degree view.

The mirror works via an iPad and records each outfit a customer tries on, for instance a shopper could try on a dozen looks, take a video of each, and then use the MemoryMirror to quickly compare each look. The innovative digital mirror can then also share those images via email, social media, or with a sales associate for future recommendations.

The MemoryMirror is technically not a mirror, but a 70-inch screen with a camera that films the shopper, but it has been designed and developed using research done on user behaviour to create the best overall shopping experience, as it even includes a special sales associate interface to send personalised recommendations to customers directly from the mirror.

Wanda Gierhart, chief marketing officer, Neiman Marcus Group, said: “Superior customer service starts with a great overall experience. The MemoryMirror allows our customers to capture a variety of still and video images that can be shared with friends and allow the customer to see how an outfit looks front and back and while moving.

“The initial introduction resulted in an immediate and positive reaction, and we’re looking forward to delivering this unique experience to more customers as we roll it out into additional stores.”

Salvador Nissi Vilcovsky, founder and CEO of MemoMi, added: “The future of fashion retail lies in the fusion of the in-store and online shopping. We are very pleased that Neiman Marcus has selected MemoryMirror to harness the potential of merging these two worlds, and we are excited to see a premier luxury retailer lead the revolution.”

Neiman Marcus plans to expand the MemoryMirror to some if its other stores including San Francisco and Dallas, and MemoMi is looking to add additional features such as allowing a customer to see how they look in different colours or patterns of the clothes they’re trying on.

The use of technology is becoming an integral part of Neiman Marcus, the retail group also unveiled this month that some of its stores would be installed with touchscreen tables that let shoppers browse its in-store and online inventory.
