Fashion retailer Ness is preparing to open its third store in Ilkley, following a 2.5 million pounds investment from YFM Equity Partners. The retailer – which launched as a touristy apparel store – will be enhancing its footprint.
Currently running 11 stores, the retailer is now looking to expand to 30 stores following the YFM investment. Actually, the company advanced that this capital injection will enable Ness to expand at a rate of four stores a year.
The Edinburgh-based business, which also has a shop in York, is planning to expand further with a Harrogate store, reports the ‘Yorkshire Post’.
Ness was set-up by Adrienne and Gordon MacAulay in 1997 and currently delivers 5 million pounds in annual turnover.
Ness began as a mainly tourist-targeted brand, but began developing its womenswear line four years ago. “We’re a brand that has a flavour of Scotland, but is quite unique and thoughtful in womenswear,” she said.
With regards to the location of the new stores, Ness recalls that it chose York as its first store outside of Scotland, which has since been followed by shops in Bath and Cambridge. MacAulay said: “We went to York to reach a city that has a University, tourism and an affluent clientelle.
