Philipp Plein to open standalone London store

Philipp Plein, the designer label best known for its glittery, sexy and in-your face designs, is set to open its debut standalone store in London, as the German designer continues to expand into the UK market.
Founded by the self-proclaimed ‘king of bling’, Philipp Plein is set to open a four-storey store on Bond Street next month. The new store, which will be decorated in black and white marble similar to his latest store in Atlanta, will featured a dedicated menswear ‘crypt’ in its basement, according to the Standard.
The standalone store is set to sit next to Philipp Plein existing’s shop-in-shop at Harrods, which currently offers the label’s complete ready to wear range and accessories for men. However, the designer has plans to double the size of his shop-in-shop in Harrods by next spring to include women’s wear and is focusing on growing Plein Sport, his high-end activewear brand.
“The typical male client is the [professional] soccer player — we are a rock-star brand,” said Plein to the Standard on his target customer. However, the target demographic for women is slighter older as “most young girls cannot really afford a leather jacket for 4,000 pounds,” he adds. “We’re not for everybody’s wallet.”
