River Island launches 'Click and Don’t Collect' service ahead of Black Friday

High-street retailer River Island has teamed up with London-based tech start-up Shutl this holiday season to offer consumers more control over their deliveries.

The 'Click and Don't Collect' service is the first of its in-store collection option to offer customers more control over their deliveries. The service was designed to solve the growing issue of non-collection of online orders delivered in-store, whilst improving delivery flexibility for customers.

As the first retailer within the UK to launch this service, shoppers who have selected the 'click and collect' option when placing an order at River Island will be given the option to change to Shutl's delivery service and have their order delivered to their door within 90 minutes or at a time more convenient to them.

"We have a number of click and collect orders that customers have paid for and are subsequently unable to collect from the store," said Doug Gardner, Chief Information Officer at River Island. "The rigours of modern life mean that it is not always convenient for them to make the time to go and receive their goods, and, in order to avoid simply refunding the customer, we found the solution offered by Shutl a highly effective one in terms of customer convenience and saving sales."

River Island's 'Click and Don't Collect' service uses Shutl's existing delivery platform and network of carries to ensure customers are able to choose the most convenient delivery option. "Non-collection continues to be a headache for retailers," added Tom Allason, Chief Executive Officer at Shutl.

"Not only does it result in lost sales, but there are practical implications too - for example, how to hold additional stock and where best to direct online customers from a store layout perspective. By giving customers control over the delivery of their click and collect purchases, we’re removing the barriers of in-store collection and ensuring greater order fulfilment."

'Click and Don’t Collect' is now available at River Island for 4.95 pounds per delivery.
