Footwear retailer Schuh has opened its first store outside of the UK and Ireland, in Oberhausen, Germany.

The 2,000 square foot store marks Schuh’s first expansion push into mainline Europe, with reports suggesting that the footwear retailer is also looking to add further stores in northern Europe.

The store stocks men’s and women’s footwear, as well as a Schuh Kids ‘shop-in-shop’, featuring brands including Vans, Toms, Ugg Australia, Adidas, Nike, Converse and Dr. Martens.

“We view Germany as having huge future potential for Schuh given the size and relative affluence of the market,” Phil Whittle, head of store operations for Schuh told Drapers. “We are working hard on other German property deals right now and expect that this will be the first of many stores for Schuh in the country.”

Schuh, which was bought by US footwear giant Genesco for 125 million pounds in 2011, has 108 stores in the UK.
