Superdry gears up for Indian expansion

London - British lifestyle retailer Superdry is set to expand its brand presence in India by opening a series of new stores across eastern India with its franchise partner Reliance Brands Limited.

The brand recently opened its debut store in the region, at the Sohum Emporia in Guwahati and aims to open additional stores in Ahmedabad and Kolkata. At the moment, Superdry counts 21 retail stores across the country, including stores in New Delhi, Chennai and Pune, which are operated by Reliance Brands, part of Reliance Industries.

"We are expanding in India," explained Manu Sharma, Business Head of Reliance Brands Limited to the Economic Times, India. "From 21 outlets. we want to grow to 28 to 29 outlets by this fiscal year."

The expansion comes as the British brand focuses on expanding its presence in Norther America as well as China, which is forecast to overtake the USa as the largest apparel and footwear market in the world.
