Renowned tailor and the first female head cutter in the history of Savile Row, Kathryn Sargent is returning to the prestigious street to open her own store.

The news marks the first time a female tailor has opened a store on Savile Row, the street famous for bespoke British tailoring since the early 19th century. Sargent’s 854 square foot store will sit alongside other notable tailors including Huntsman, Henry Poole and Co, Richard James and Dege and Skinner.

Sargent, who trained on Savile Row, dressing a range of high profile clients, previously worked at bespoke tailors Gieves and Hawkes for 15 years, becoming head cutter in 2009, and has become known for innovative contemporary bespoke pieces for men and women.

The tailor established her own showroom on Brook Street in 2014 and is following it up with a temporary store on Savile Row opening in April until the end of summer with a store concept created by Tanner Design.

Commenting on the opening, Sargent, said: “I am delighted to be opening a shop on Savile Row. As a tailor, it has been a long-held ambition of mine, and throughout my career, I have upheld the excellent values of Savile Row. I am thrilled to be making history, although for me being a woman is incidental, I am a tailor first and foremost.”

Rob Fay, director at Shackleton, which advices the landlords of Savile Row, added: “Kathryn is highly regarded worldwide for the quality of her bespoke garments and we are delighted that she has chosen a location on Savile Row for her new store. Kathryn is very well known in the tailoring community, and her presence here affirms Savile Row as a destination famous across the world for tailoring of the highest standard.”

Kathryn Sargent’s store will be located at 37 Savile Row.
