Traidcraft, the UK’s leading fair trade organisation, has opened its first retail outlet in nearly three decades.

Situated on Gateshead’s Team Valley, the store stocks a range of fair trade products from artisans and producers across the developing world, including fair trade apparel, jewellery, accessories, ethical homewares, toys and a selection of fair trade groceries.

The opening coincides with the launch of Traidcraft’s biggest-ever marketing campaign, ‘Show You Care’, aimed at encouraging UK consumers to continue supporting unique and life-changing work by shopping fair trade products, as well as to launch the organisation’s new autumn range.

Traidcraft’s marketing director, Larry Bush said: “Show You Care is our message to UK consumers that their support is vital if we are to continue our unique, pioneering work in the developing world. For more than 30 years, we have been at the forefront of the fair trade movement, but our job is far from being done, and we want to continue making sure that producers and artisans in some of the world’s poorest nations get a fair deal for the work that they do.

“We’re really excited to be opening our new outlet store, our first one in many years. It helps us mark a really ambitious time at Traidcraft, one where we’re reinvigorating our message that supporting Traidcraft and our amazing work shows you care about real people, people who otherwise would struggle to get by.”

The outlet, which is based at the organisations head office, complements Traidcraft’s existing online store as well as sales from fair traders and Traidcraft stockists across the country.
