New York - A new property from European discount shopping conglomerate Value Retail has opened near Disney's 6 billion Shanghai amusement park in Mainland China. This is the second Value Retail chain in Mainland China after the opening of a Suzhou Village store in 2014. The 592,000-square-foot Shanghai Village features 140 designer brand boutiques with steep discounts of up to 75 percent off fashion, homeware, and lifestyle products.
Value Retail is finally capitalizing on its popularity with Chinese consumers who represent their largest demographic in Europe.
This new location is expected to see high amounts of retail traffic once Shanghai Disney officially opens in June.
The design of the Shanghai Village is based the city's "Hai Pai" Art Deco past, paying homage to Art Deco cities around the world like New York, Paris, Milan, and Vienna. The VIP lounges throughout the Village are devoted to artists like Georgia O'Keefe.
“We are very pleased to see the Village’s streets come to life with people enjoying not only the beautiful boutiques, but exploring its architecture, the lounges and our many exhibits,” said Value Retail China chief executive officer Mark Israel to WWD. “Shanghai Village will provide an unparalleled shopping experience serving millions of domestic and international visitors to the resort zone, as well as the discerning shoppers of the Greater Shanghai Area.”
