Retail and property development tycoon Hammerson has confirmed the opening of Victoria Gate, the 165 million pound luxury, shopping development in Leeds, this autumn. The retail, dining and leisure centre is set to officially open its doors to the public on Thursday, 20 October, 2016, alongside of its anchor tenant, department store John Lewis.

"It is great to be able to confirm the official launch date for Victoria Gate as the 20 October," said Robin Dobson, Director Retail Development at Hammerson. "Ideally timed for pre-Christmas trade we are delighted to bring this new and iconic retail destination to Leeds and one that is set to be the largest premium retail and leisure destination outside of London."

Victoria Gate is set to become part of the new 53,400 square meter Victoria Estate shopping district, which includes Leeds' iconic Victoria Quarter arcades. The new retail centre scheme is currently 74 percent pre-let and will offer a series of new retailers to the city, including Russell & Bromley, Aspinal of London, Gant, Hackett, Tommy Hilfiger, and Anthropologie.

"I can't wait for John Lewis Leeds to open its doors for the first time," added James Prince, Head of Branch at John Lewis Leeds. "It's our most service and experiential led shop to date, as we continue to offer more for customers that can't be replicated online."
