Zalando expands fulfillment centers in Europe

Berlin-based e-commerce giant Zalando is expanding its network of logistics with two new locations in Paris, France, and Stettin in Poland.

The online fashion platform counts nearly 19 million customers in 15 European markets, and it's new logistics centers will enable the German business to streamlines it's activities when it opens its new warehouses, taking its total number of logistics centers to seven.

Last December Zalando opened a logistics hub in the Italian town of Stradella, and it's new fulfillment center in France will mimic to speed up shipments to local customers, as the company is seeing growth in Paris and the French market. When Zalando opened its Italian center, it allowed for the processing of 60 percent of local orders resulting in customers receiving orders 1.5 days faster.

The Polish expansion will cater predominantly to East European customers, as well as Germany and Scandinavia, although the new 1.4 million square feet space will be supplying all 15 of Zalando's markets. The company also operates logistics centers in Mönchengladbach, Erfurt, and Lahr.

According to Zalando, the company delivers several million packages throughout Europe monthly and over the last year gained more than three million new customers.

Ealier this month Zalando reported its first half profits of 2016 grew 5.5 percent, with renewed investment in its customer proposition fueling the company’s growth. Zalando also saw a doubling of downloads of its shopping app, taking its active customers base to 18.8 million and supporting a 90 percent growth in mobile app orders year-on-year.
