Balenciaga’s Centenary: A Retrospective

In order to celebrate its 100th anniversary this year, fashion house Balenciaga has organised a retrospective entitled Balenciaga: l’oeuvre au noir, which will open at the Musée Bourdelle in Paris. The exhibition features Cristobal Balenciaga’s all-black, elegant and refined designs. To mark the occasion, FashionUnited has charted the history of the celebrated Parisian fashion house, from its foundation by the legendary Spanish couturier and the founding of the Parisian couture house twenty years later, to the present day.

Balenciaga’s current artistic director, Demna Gvasalia, made a daring stament in his latest collection for the fashion house at Paris Fashion Week by marrying car design and high fashion. Balenciaga has always been an very innovative house, attracting directional talents like Nicolas Ghesquière and Alexander Wang. Scroll down for an overview of Balenciaga’s history.
