Reaching a new milestone, the first two factories producing ready-made garments have completed all remediation work. They are Concord Fashion Export Ltd. and Jeacon, both located in the same building in Gazipur, Dhaka. The successful completion was verified by engineers of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh on May 20 and announced last week. More factories whose work has been completed can be expected soon as verification is ongoing.

The Accord credits and applauds the efforts of the factory owners and managers with reaching the milestone, as well as the relevant Accord company and union signatories, the factory workers and the Accord engineers and case handlers.

"As we recognize these achievements and prepare to verify additional factories which have reported all remediation items completed, the Accord remains vigilant in accelerating the pace and level of remediation at the large number of Accord inspected factories where execution of the remediation is inadequate or too far behind schedule," read the Accord statement published on May 26.

The milestone was reached almost exactly two years after the first companies signed the Accord in May 2013. For the organisation, it is a "powerful indicator that the Accord is making a difference and that RMG factories producing for Accord company and retailer signatories are becoming safe".
